Funding Fee Calculator
Work out the funding fee you pay or receive on a perpetual futures position, per funding interval and over the time you hold it.

How it is calculated
- Position value = position size × mark price
- Funding per interval = position value × funding rate
- When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs.
- Total funding = funding per interval × number of intervals (assumes the rate and price stay the same).
Worked example
A 1 BTC long at 60,000 held for one day (three 8-hour intervals) at 0.01% funding.
| You enter | |
|---|---|
| Direction | Long |
| Position size (coins) | 1 |
| Mark price | 60,000 |
| Funding rate per interval | 0.01 % |
| Number of funding intervals | 3 |
| You get | |
| Total funding (+ you pay, − you receive) | 18 |
| Funding per interval | 6 |
| Position value | 60,000 |
Over 3 funding intervals you pay about 18 in the contract's settlement currency, 6 each time.
Questions
Who pays funding?
When the funding rate is positive, traders who are long pay traders who are short. When it is negative, shorts pay longs. The exchange itself usually takes no cut.
How often is funding charged?
Many exchanges charge it every 8 hours (00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC), but some contracts use 4-hour or 1-hour intervals. Check the contract page.
