How it is calculated
- Change = (new price − old price) ÷ old price × 100
- Price after a move = new price × (1 + move ÷ 100)
Worked example
A coin that went from 100 to 150, then rises another 10%.
| You enter | |
|---|---|
| Old price | 100 |
| New price | 150 |
| Further move | 10 % |
| You get | |
| Change from old to new | 50.0000% |
| Price after the further move | 165 |
The price rose 50%. After the further move it would be 165.
Questions
If a coin rises 10% and then falls 10%, am I back to even?
No. 100 up 10% is 110; 110 down 10% is 99. Percentage moves compound on the current price.
